YOUR FIRST DAY AT A.L.I.

1) ARRIVAL IN A.L.I.

You will arrive at A.L.I. at your scheduled appointment time, or at 10:30 am if you don’t have one. At the school, you will be met by several staff members in the student lounge, where you can meet other new students and enjoy coffee and juice.

2) WRITTEN AND ORAL PLACEMENT TEST

When you register, our International Student Registrar offers you the possibility to complete the online written placement test, which can be done through our website (www.studymontreal.com), either at home or at the school. This way, when you arrive at A.L.I., you just have to pass the oral placement test, which last about 15 minutes. The appointments for the oral placement test are set on an individual basis before you arrive in Montreal.

3) MEETING WITH OUR PROGRAM COORDINATOR

O
nce you have passed your oral placement test, you will meet with our Program Coordinator who will explain your program in detail and help you select the right course options for you.

4) INDIVIDUAL MEETING WITH OUR HOMESTAY COORDINATOR

If you are participating in our homestay program, you will meet our Homestay Coordinator on an individual basis to make sure that you are 100% satisfied with your homestay and to get tips and suggestions on how to make sure you have a great homestay experience.

5) ORIENTATION

At 3:30 pm, all the new students are invited to meet with our Activity coordinator for an orientation session. At this meeting, you will get a full tour of the school and will be provided with a Student Handbook to help you understand how things work in A.L.I.. After the orientation meeting, our Activities Coordinator usually leads the new students on a walking tour of downtown to help familiarize them with their new environment and to show them how to get around the city. Eventually, you will have the possibility to go out to dinner at one of the city’s many great restaurants (in which case you should advise your host family).

6) TUESDAY MORNING

ESL students start their courses at 8:45 am on their first Tuesday, whereas FSL students start their courses at 9:30 am.
